Original Thought And Attention Seeking Do Not Mix
From Too Many Blogs To Count:
There seems to be a lot of chittering about how there is no original thought in the blogosphere. Even we’ve posted on the topic, so clearly it’s important. We’ve given a bit more thought to the topic and came up with the following:
Remember all the annoying kids in high school who sat around and made fun of everyone? The “cool” clique? All they did was talk, gossip, what have you. They all went on to be fat, balding, car salesmen or obnoxious, catty women who have nothing to talk about except their husbands and kids. The kids that they made fun of, who spent a lot of time with their own ideas…the nerds…well, they are the ones creating all the cool stuff today.
Original thought is hard, and takes time. You know what detracts from all of that? Writing stupid blog posts, going to conference after conference, aggregating feeds and calling it a business, and broadcasting your banality. The original thought has been drowned out of the room by attention seekers. If you wanted to get at the front edge of this curve, you should have looked at the cool kids 5-10 years ago. Just wait…someone will pitch a video podcast that follows Arrington, Om, Calacanis and Gilmor around the Bay Area and call it “The Bay” in homage to “The Hills.”
It’s real hard to create when you don’t spend time creating. Just a thought - and apparently an original one, as no one has ever typed those words online.
